this won't make much sense if you don't have the right background but it fits perfectly with my theory of 4chan as a compost heap, where all the cultural waste ends up, creating a super rich pile of crap from which new things grow.

11- i was sad to be informed that advertising is the "glue" holding media together. i dislike advertising on a pretty fundamental level, more than just "commercials suck." i'm starting to question capitalism in general, an idea for which advertising is the heart.

12- wait. WAIT WAIT. the bush administration sold propaganda as news? and it was illegal? and they were caught? but they kept doing it anyway??? HAS ANYBODY ELSE READ 1984? this is like a satire of what a cliche "big brother sneaky government" would do.

13- this book is shockingly subversive for a text book. i approve. the sections about the few corporations owning almost everything were shocking but factual. the section about hegemony and the control of common sense was just awesome icing on the cake.

i have no idea where i read this but one time i read that "men get off looking at women and women get off being looked at by men" which i think sums up the relationship between Cosmo and Maxim.

Maxim:
ALL MEN LIKE HOT BABES, VIDEO GAMES, AND POWER TOOLS.

Cosmo:
WOMEN LIKE MAKE-UP, PLEASING THEIR MAN, AND...HOT BABES?

humanity is doomed.

things i learned:
Payola is a word which i had somehow never heard.
Little Richard was rock and roll's first drag queen? really?
i wonder how the ramones would feel about being in a text book chapter about "punk rock."

all of my experience with text books has been with really outdated editions talking about things like "electronic mail" and "new compact discs" so it's really surreal to read one that refers to the obama presidency and the Wii. it's good to see their just as cheesy as ever though.
